- One really fun exercise is discuss the different ways that money can look like. For example, if we start with cash and coins. A lot of times our kids have already learned about what cash and coins looks like in the classroom. But it's really important to have this discussion at home. Pull out your wallet, take out the different bills, take out the different coins, if you have cash or coins from different countries, take that out as well, so they can get really familiar with what coins look like, and what denominations they are, and have like a game in place to discuss this. In addition, let's talk about checks and the ATM card. I know many of us don't use checks very often anymore, but the reality is our children need to know how to use them. So, get an old checkbook out, or even make copies, or create your own check, and let your children write checks out, who they're made payable to, let them sign it, and do transactions within the family.
