- A captain and his crew were sailing the seas when one of the crew members notice that they were headed towards an iceberg. He thought it looked a little strange, but he didn't say anything. A little while later, he noticed that they were drawing closer to the iceberg, but he still didn't say anything. A little while later, the ship actually wrecked into the iceberg. At this point, the crew member looked to the others and said, "Everyone, I think that we were headed towards an iceberg." Whether it is encouraging continued behavior, correcting undesirable behavior or coaching to improve behavior, timely feedback is critical. Waiting until the end of a project, the end of a quarter, or for the annual review will not best help your team succeed.
