- Overt racism is the obvious undeniable stuff, the aggressive, openly hostile behavior we've all heard or seen, but microaggressions is covert and sneakier, harder to pinpoint, even harder to call out. It is also what most people have created cognitive dissonance between to not imagine themselves as participants, but marginalized groups experience this on a daily basis based on things like race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, identity, or ableism. No matter how you identify, microaggressions has a way of seeping into the crevices of life, so taking the time to understand how these behaviors show up daily is critical. Psychologist Derald Wing Sue identifies three prominent types of transgressions that demonstrate the behavior of microaggressions more clearly.
