Use account numbers

- [Instructor] I'm still in my chart of accounts from the last video. You can add account numbers to your chart of accounts, even after you've created your own items. However, any accounts that QuickBooks creates will have the numbers automatically assigned. But you'll have to add the numbers for accounts that you created. For example, our business checking account, or credit card, even the tasting party that we created earlier. QuickBooks will assign an account number based on a standard called GAAP. That stands for Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This means it's going to assign a number according to the type of account it is, such as a bank account, fixed asset or income or expense account. Your accountant may also require you to use account numbers and you can change those from what QuickBooks assigns. You don't even have to use account numbers at all.
