Using scorecards to measure and manage performance

- Organizations have a number of different performance measurement tools and strategies. Let's look at three different ways companies measure, manage and motivate. Performance evaluations are used to measure individuals in your company. Often, companies will ask employees to evaluate themselves. The performance evaluation utilizes a rubric. This communicates to the employee what the company cares about, and thus, what will be measured. It may also indicate how these criteria are judged and measured. In a self-evaluation, each employee is asked to measure their own performance. This will motivate the employee to reflect on their actions and outcomes and help them understand how the managers see them. Usually, managers will also evaluate the employee using this same evaluation. The manager and employee can then compare their evaluations and discuss similarities and differences.
