What are VCs?

- Sometimes they're called VCs or venture capitalists or investors. In this section, we'll break down not only what a VC is but also a little bit of history on venture investing and what stages VCs invest in. The easy definition of a VC is someone who invests in companies in exchange for equity. They're like angel investors, but instead of investing their own money, VCs invest on behalf of their fund. Before we get into the stages of companies VCs invest in, let's take a quick look at the history of venture. Early on in the tech industry, it took a lot more capital and resources to build and start a company. Think HP or Apple. Physical products were being created. The first steps in building these products back then were to build a factory and a manufacturing team. It was very capital intensive to release the first product.
