What is a flipped classroom?

So, let's take a look at what happens in your classroom today. For most of us, students come in, they take their seats, and we walk through a presentation of content. Sometimes we use videos. Sometimes I have a Power Point slide. Sometimes I might do exploratory learning, or have students make observations. I might even have students gain knowledge, by interacting with each other. This is all fairly passive learning. Our students are not really engaging with the information, they're just absorbing the information. And research shows us, that whatever you present to students in class, anywhere from 20 to 80% of it is going to be absorbed. Which means that there is a gap. Even our best and brightest students, probably aren't going to master the content the first time you give it to them. And so we have to come in and do those extension activities.
