- There has been a ton of research done on what's persuasive and what isn't. Most of the research of the last 120 years has looked at messaging to make marketing more effective. One of the preeminent researchers on persuasion and on influence is Robert Cialdini. Cialdini identified six key principles of influence that you can integrate into your leadership to be more persuasive. In this lesson, I'll lay out these six principles and how you can use them to become a more effective leader who produces better results. The first principle is reciprocity. If you do something for someone, they're more likely to respond in kind. As a leader, you should commonly be using this principle. You ought to seek to support those around you, then when you need something, they'll be much more likely to respond in kind. Consistency or commitment is next.
