- So what would make you decide to ask for an increase in pay? Well, a big one I think is when you have a complaint. For example if the job has been made more difficult for you in some way. Or perhaps the holidays have been reduced or your territory's been increased or they've messed around with your hours or your shifts. Maybe you have to do a weekend shift or something. All of these things should switch on your negotiating light because this is the perfect chance to say, well, you've done this and I can see why but it's making my life worse and I want to be paid more for it. So if anything's got worse and you've got a complaint that should absolutely switch on your pay rise light. But the other time is when you've done something really good. You've got some great results recently. Maybe the numbers have just come in, you've had your best month or your best year ever or you've just completed a project successfully.…
