Why is feedback so difficult?

- Let's face it, feedback can be awkward. If you have something not so great to tell someone, you might feel really uncomfortable sharing it. The longer you wait, the more your motions get involved. You might even bail on giving the feedback at all. Would it really be so bad if you just didn't say anything? Feedback is so difficult because it sits at the juncture of two of our most basic needs: wanting to reach our full potential, and wanting to belong and feel accepted. Here are some common barriers to effective feedback and how you can overcome them. First, feedback can be a trigger. We all have a history with feedback. Your past mistakes are etched into your brain and can impact your ability to respond to feedback now. You might get defensive, go blank or look for the nearest door.
