- In 1961, President John F. Kennedy was visiting NASA headquarters for the very first time. While touring the facility, he introduced himself to a janitor who was mopping the floor and he asked him what he did at NASA. The janitor replied, "I'm here to put a man on the moon." This man understood what his company's top objective was and he was inspired by it. The foundation of an OKR is the objective, the O. Writing a powerful objective begins with identifying the problem you'd like to solve, or problem statement. A problem statement describes an issue or something preventing growth, change, or a desired outcome. Helpful questions to ask yourself when writing a problem statement include what do I want to change? What's holding me back from creating my ideal scenario?
