- How is my body language organizing in order to communicate to others? I'm very careful to, for instance, in a negotiation, not to scratch the back of my neck or rub my nose. Right at the moment where I want to be negotiating with someone, these two postures represent to someone that I'm nervous. They won't know precisely what it is that is causing them to think I'm nervous, but if in a negotiation at a critical moment, I scratch the back of my neck and rub my nose, they will understand that I'm nervous. Your body talks. Be sure that you're aware of what you're saying. Aligned posture, direct eye contact, they say, I've got this, I can do this. They demonstrate credibility. A gentle tone of voice, a warm smile, they say, I've got your back, I care. And there, you're getting the empathy points.
