- One of the largest shifts we had to make was early on back in 2011 and 2012 around the shift to mobile. What was happening at that time, Facebook was a desktop company. You went onto Facebook.com on your laptop or your desktop and if you utilized us on mobile, you probably didn't have a very good experience back then and yet suddenly during the summer, we saw the lines cross where more people actually were utilizing Facebook and joining Facebook from their mobile device than they were on a desktop or laptop. And that fundamentally shifted the company. Mark held an all hands and talked about the importance of becoming a mobile first company and that going forward, he wanted to ensure that all of our new product development was mobile first and then to the desktop and what happened after that all hands was frankly not very much initially until one of the product managers showed Mark some mock-ups of a feature that they had been working on and those mock-ups were done in a desktop…
