The feedback decision tree
- Do you know what the most helpful element of giving feedback is? It's being good at receiving it yourself. I want to help you become a gold star feedback recipient. Here are some of the questions to ask yourself to prepare for receiving feedback. First, are you really open to receiving feedback? If yes, great. You've probably found feedback useful before and are ready for more. If not, do a gut check, and think about how you've dealt with feedback in the past. Have you had difficulty with feedback and been shut down, or felt the need to justify your actions? Go back to specific times when you felt like this and see where exactly you got hung up. What made it difficult for you to just take it in without resistance? Was it how it was delivered? Was it who delivered it? What could you have done to have made that situation easier?
