The impact of external drivers on processes and policies

- All of our workplaces operate in a territory, geographical location, sector, or industry, market or customer segment. Whilst we're in our factory, office, or community building it may be difficult to keep that in mind. However that territory will have an impact on what the company does and the work we do to deliver that. We call these factors external drivers. Customer demands and needs are one external driver. Changes in legislation and particularly employment law are also factors that HR professionals have to take into account. Research and the sciences of human behavior also lead us to new conclusions about motivating, learning, leading others, making decisions, and balancing competing demands. Let's work through a few examples. A fast growing technology and a nursing organization are both operating in ways where decisions are local, not made by its headquarters, managing the flow, allocation, and delivery of work.…
