The impact of your attitude and interactions

- Have you ever wondered why some recruiters achieve great success while others struggle to attain their goals? Working hard or long hours does not guarantee your success, but maintaining a positive attitude when you interact with clients and candidates does. You have to identify your why to maintain a positive attitude and motivation. High achieving recruiters have a clear understanding of why they became a recruiter. They realize they are compensated to a great extent based on their performance. They know there is no limit on what they can earn or what this career can provide for them as well as for the people that they love. It's easy to be positive and motivated when things are going well. However, recruiting is a sales profession and you will often face unrealistic deadlines, conflicting priorities, objections, delays and disappointments. When you stay focused on your why, you will develop the mental strength to handle the unpredictable. To help identify your why, write down 10 non-negotiable goals. These could include personal, health, career, financial, spiritual, philanthropic, or any other areas that are important to you. Under each goal, list five specific dated action items. These action items detail the specific steps you will take to achieve each goal, and then post these goals where you can see them as you work and check off the action items as they are achieved. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and will help you stay positive and motivated. Surround yourself with positive, encouraging people and materials. Top producers in the recruiting profession continue to grow their supportive network of passionate, growth-oriented colleagues and friends. Identify individuals who are high-achievers in any profession and include them in your professional network and learn from them. Replace reading or watching negative news with listening to motivational sales or inspirational videos. Make a commitment today to a lifetime of learning which helps you anticipate trends and maintain your positive attitude. As you experience success in the recruiting profession, fill your work area with testimonials from satisfied candidates or clients and request recommendations on your LinkedIn profile. Display any awards, accomplishments or wins that can immediately provide you with a confidence boost. Empower yourself by understanding you can choose how you react. See, early in my career, I was easily upset by candidates, especially when I found the exact job they described, and then they turned down the offer. Hiring authorities would upset me when they would tell me my candidate was the front runner, only to hire an internal candidate. I then realized getting upset was a waste of my time and energy. I learned not to react, but instead, focused on changes I could make so these issues didn't continue to occur. It's empowering to learn that you can choose how you react. No one can upset you unless you give them permission, and why would you? You will interact with so many different people and personalities and issues that often it's best to decide not to react. You also need to be enjoyable to work with. Your perspective clients and candidates have many options on who they select to either find the talent they need to hire or help them advance their career. People prefer to work with someone they enjoy working with, which then leads to rapport and trust. Always remember why you became a recruiter and continue to surround yourself with positive people. Make a commitment today to always project a positive attitude during every interaction so you attract the best candidates and clients. As a result, you will achieve great success in the staffing and recruiting profession.
