- Step two of the influencing process is to be liked by the other person. Basically, to be the nicest person in the world. But before we get into how to be liked, 'cause there are seven things you can do to be more likable, let's just analyze, is it ethical to get people to like us? 'Cause that does have a slightly dodgy feel, doesn't it, of a sort of salesperson messing with your head. But I want to make the point that if you can just be nice to everyone, surely that's better. And if being liked involves building up a genuine relationship with other people, then I think that's okay, but it has to be genuine. And I think a lot of these techniques, at first, are quite superficial. At first, you're playing a game with people. But after a while, it becomes a habit.
