- One of the more exciting parts of HR is working in a changing world. Ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, "Change is the only constant in life." And that is certainly true of work in HR in the 21st century. Companies operate in a changing world, so what is HR's role in making sure where change's occurring, that the people aspects are handled well? With digital technology surging on with new ways to do virtually everything, work is being disrupted with automation and robotics, virtual and augmented reality, and connected everything. And it isn't just digital technology, we're also learning about behavioral science, healthy and unhealthy working practices, coping with an aging population, and a range of new skills needed in 21st century workplaces.
