The power of motivation with Dan Pink

- So much of what leadership, and management, and motivation comes down to is this. What do you believe about other people? What are your starting premises about the people who work in your organization? If your starting premises are that people are lazy, shiftless, don't care, always want to cut corners, that's going to lead you down one path. If your starting premises are that people, though, are actually do care, that they want to contribute, that they want to do the right thing, that they're willing to work hard, that leads you down another path. And I've deeply believed that that second set of premises are not only more noble, I think they're more accurate. I think they're closer to human nature. My name is Daniel Pink. For the last 20 years, I've been writing about business. I've been studying organizations trying to crack the code of what motivates us. And for a long time in organizations we had to build systems in the name of efficiency that went against the grain of human nature. Today, because of what we know about science and because of how the workplace has changed, we can build organizations and workplaces that go with the grain of human nature. Not only is that more ennobling, it's actually more fun, it's more productive, and so my challenge to you is this. Build workplaces that go with the grain of human nature. When you do that, I think that you and your team can do great things.
