The power of a well-organized calendar

- Are your appointments falling through the cracks? Are you forgetting meetings you said you'd attend? If you commit to using and staying on top of your calendar, this won't happen. When you use your calendar daily, you'll find that you're so much more organized and on top of the things you say you're going to do. Taking time to utilize your calendar helps you in three big ways. First, when you consistently calendar your appointments, you're less likely to miss them. This includes not only appointments with others, but also making appointments with yourself. You'll want to make these appointments to do your highest level thinking work. When you calendar several hours in the morning, which is our body's most productive time, make sure that it's uninterrupted to be able to work on that project or write that report. Next, you'll want to calendar action items on your to-do list. When you get in the habit of utilizing your calendar to work through your to-do list, you'll soon see how much more smoothly your day goes. This also ensures that things aren't left off the list. You'll even want to schedule breaks into your calendar. Whether it's taking 30 minutes to eat a healthy lunch or fitting a YOLO class in before you have to pick up the kids from school, you'll want this in your calendar. When you take breaks, you'll actually become more efficient and productive at getting things done. Neuroscience research shows that taking breaks boosts our ability to be more organized and effective at what we're trying to accomplish. Go ahead and calendar your next day with to-do list items that need to be done. The more you do this, the better you'll get, and knowing how long these items will take.
