On-record vs. off-record approaches

On-record vs. off-record approaches
- [Man] Correct me if I'm wrong here. It seems as though it's almost a bit of a spectrum here when we have on record versus off record. And so there are varying degrees of recordness, (chuckles) if you will, when it comes to the way that we approach this. And sometimes in my conversations, I might try to use the off-record approach initially. And usually it maybe get things across, get the points across through innuendo, but sometimes I'm met with resistance or the person isn't really getting it. Then as the conversation develops, I start to go down the spectrum more toward the on record where it's like, okay, indirect hasn't worked, now I need to be a little bit more direct. But I want it to at least exhaust that indirect method initially before becoming more direct just for the purpose of face. Does that approach make sense from your perspective? - [Man] Yes, I would say same way it's kind of good to start out…
