- So you're going to ask your boss for a pay rise. What are the top two things you need to prepare? And I would say, it's your walk away and your tradeables. So the number one thing always in any negotiation is your walk-away point. What if you don't get this pay rise? What are you going to do? And you may decide, "Well, you know, I'm just going to crumble and say, 'Okay then, just thought I'd ask.'" And that's fine and still be happy 'cause it's always worth a go. But you may decide, if you don't get it, you're going to leave. If you don't get all of it, you're going to leave, or if you don't get some sort of a pay rise, you're going to leave because they obviously don't value you, you're not happy, you know you can get more somewhere else, you're going to leave. But you have to decide, "Will I leave or not if I don't get this pay rise?" And that's something that you need to decide before you even go in there.…
