The why of company versus the what

- Our mission at Facebook was originally to make the world more open and connected and give people the power to share and that mission really aligned all of us. We knew why we were coming to work at Facebook and what we were working on and how it was contributing to the overall mission. We actually revised our mission earlier this year because we realized that connecting people is not enough, we need to connect people for a higher purpose and we realized that that higher purpose is around building community, a sense of community and to bring the world closer together especially as we saw the world moving away from being closer together. We saw the rise of nationalism and countries thinking about being more isolationist in their theories versus more globalized and so, we thought it was really important to have the mission really be updated and that mission is something that every employee at Facebook can recite, they understand why they're working here and how each of their areas…
