Importing Illustrator paths to 3ds Max
- [Instructor] A common pipeline for motion graphics is to take a 2D element such as a logo, bring it into 3D and turn it into a 3D surface or volume by extruding or beveling the 2D artwork. And it's very common that that 2D artwork will be created in Adobe Illustrator. I'll show you now how to import an Illustrator document and prepare it for conversion to a 3D surface. First, let's check in on our unit setup. Going to the customize menu and choose unit setup. I'm just going to set that to US Standard with decimal inches, and click OK. And, additionally, set up the grid, right-click on the 3D snaps icon, go into Home Grid, and set the grid spacing to one inch, Major Lines every 12 inches, with a Perspective View Grid Extent of 24 inches. Press Enter, and then exit that dialog, and we can zoom in a bit with the wheel. And now, each one of these grids is actually one inch in size. We are ready now to import our Illustrator document.
