Applying colors to layers

- We're staying in the same drawing now. And we're going to take a little look at how we apply colors to layers. Now, in the previous video, when we set up our Layers in the Layer Properties Manager, we set some colors and we set some Linetypes, Lineweights et cetera. Now, what we're going to do is, actually create an object on one of those Layers and then change the color. Now you can do this in two ways. So what we're going to do, we're going to zoom in on this area here. So, See we've got to kick back area with some chairs, coffee tables, little sofas here. And so on. I want to highlight that area. Now we're on the highlight boundary layer, like I suggested previously. So I'm going to create a rectangle around the area. So rectangle command in the Drawer panel and just click and drag a rectangle around the area like that. There's the rectangle like so. Now at the moment it's adopting that red layer color. Now I can do this in two ways. I can jump into the Layer dropdown, like this there's Highlight Boundary. I can click there on the color box, the color of the Layer, and it will bring up the AutoCAD Color Index. The True Color and the Color Books. I'm going to change that color. So let's go to say that bright blue there, that cyan sort of color. And as you can see that updates the Layer color that way. What I can also do is, jump back into Layer properties, find my Highlight Boundary Layer and change the color here. Like so. Let's put that back to red, click on Okay. And that's now red again. When I close the Layer Properties Manager, it's back to the original red color. So, You see how quick and easy it is to change colors. Now, based on the fact that we're talking about utilities and properties in this course, there's one more setting that you can actually utilize. So at the moment, the Highlight Boundary Layer is red, but I might select it and give it an individual color. Notice my Quick Properties is on there. So at the moment, the color is ByLayer. So I can change it here. If I want to, I can change it up here in the Properties panel if I want to. Notice ByLayer, ByLayer. So if I click there and click there, like so. And I changed that to say yellow, it's now an individual yellow color. If I close the Quick properties and hit Escape, it's now yellow, but the Layer color is still red. So what I can do there is I can then select that again. And I may go back here like so, and go ByLayer again, and it adopts the Layer color again. So remember, you've got that ByLayer and individual color option as well if you need to use it. So I'll just hit Escape a couple of times now we've placed our little Highlight Boundary. What we're going to think about now is other parts of the properties of that boundary, utilizing the Layer properties within AutoCAD
