- The next step after being a BIM coordinator actually is the BIM manager role, which, even though we're talking about BIM management, really isn't the highest step in the whole BIM management process. The BIM manager role is usually filled with someone who has a professional degree or at least has a tech school education. Now, there are some exceptions to that rule, and that includes people that graduated from high school, became CAD managers, and then eventually became BIM managers just through years of experience in the industry. But more and more, the kind of person that shows up inside of a BIM manager role is actually someone who has a degree from a university. Their work history usually started off doing 3D or doing drafting of some sort that led into a 3D modeling environment.
