Breaking down a specification section and how materials are specified

- [Instructor] When we're dealing with a specific specification section in a spec book, there's a lot of information to look at. You should be familiar with the different parts within a specification. You see, designers may use one through four parts of a specification, and they may even be labeled part one, part two, part three, and so on. Generally speaking, parts consist of these divisions. General; the general part usually includes a description or summary of the work of what's included in that section, any administrative requirements, things such as submittals, product testing, permits, any licensing required for this particular spec section, and very importantly, any applicable standards such as testing agencies. Products; this is where all the technical information about a particular product exists. Is it plastic? Is it steel? Does it have to light up? And how bright? Is it painted? What color paint?
