Build a portfolio

- Storyboard artists live and die by the quality of the samples in their portfolios. We used to have printed portfolios with us and we used to spend a fortune sending these out across the country to our clients. Now we just need a website that we can send people to. Now your portfolio should constantly be changing with better pieces replacing older pieces. It's better to have a smaller portfolio with awesome samples than a larger portfolio with a few poor pieces mixed in. So let's say you're new and don't have many or really any samples. Well, create them. Write and storyboard your own. The trick is to keep any samples you create short. Try to make a few sequences in let's say 24 to 36 panels. Action sequences usually read the best. You can also offer to help a small production, or some pitches, or a student film with their storyboards. Learning to work with the director is really important. It's a different exercise than…
