Clamping

- Work holding, is regularly called clamping. Depending on what you're doing, it can be an art form just simply holding the work piece, so it can be manufactured. For instance, if you're going to throw something in a lathe to be turned, you typically have two choices as far as how a part will be held, a three-jaw chuck, or four-jaw chuck. There are custom work holding solutions. But, since they are custom, you'll know what you need. Also, if your work piece is very long, you'll have to hold the opposite end. And to perform that function, you'll use what is called a live center. Now, when you're machining on a work piece, your clamping requirements will be very different from using a lathe. For the most part, you'll be using a standard CNC machining vise. Another option is that you clamp your part directly to the table.
