- [Narrator] According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or IPCC, climate change mitigation is a human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases. In other words, climate change mitigation is reducing greenhouse gas emissions by managing human activities that result in these emissions such as by reducing and/or replacing fossil fuels and enhancing the ability of earth in absorbing and neutralizing emissions such as by preserving forests and oceans and reforestation. According to the United Nations Environment Program, carbon dioxide due to fossil fuel consumption is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities followed by destruction forests as the second largest source. According to the 2019 Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction, almost 40% of energy related greenhouse gas emissions are from buildings and construction sector.…
