- [Instructor 1] When you move from another form of manufacturing to additive, you and your staff might need to think about things differently. Some parts of your process might get a lot faster, but others might take more time or use different tools and processes. Creating a part with additive manufacturing has several distinct stages. First, the part has to be designed. If you already use digital design tools, like computer-aided design or CAD programs, you will be at least part of the way there. However, if not, that'll be the first hurdle. Creating a design to be fabricated by robots, whether they're subtractive, like a CNC mill, or additive, means that you have to specify your part in great detail, including any clearances. If you're new to CAD, you can look into the many courses on the library that cover CAD basics, but you'll need to allow time for your staff to get proficient, or supplement your current staff…
