Control distance intensity with a Light Decay filter

- [Instructor] Using area lights instead of a Skydome for suffuse environmental illumination is a great technique. It gives us more control with shorter render times. But there is one problem, surfaces near the lights can be overexposed. This is an example of when a decay filter comes in handy. And it will help us to reduce the intensity of the light near it's surface. Let's do a rendering of this shot with area lights on the windows. Go over to camera_lounge, click in that view port, and choose Arnold, Render. When that's finished, store the image as a snapshot, and just make sure that interactive production rendering is no longer running. To isolate the effect of the decay filter, let's adjust the area lights, and temporarily hide the Skydome, because it's contributing specular rays and brightening up the surfaces. Go to the Outliner. Windows, Outliner. Select aiSkyDome_backdrop, and press H to hide that object.…
