Creating photometric lights
- [Instructor] This chapter is an introduction to the basics of lighting in 3ds Max. We'll use the loft department set here to illustrate interior, artificial lighting. And we'll also set up a sun and sky for interior, natural light, or day lighting. We'll go ahead and create a light. Go over to the create panel and in the categories, choose lights. There's a pull-down list here that's labeled photometric and if you select that pull-down list, you'll see that there are three types of lights in 3ds Max. Standard lights, such as omni and skylight, really only work with the scanline renderer. And this is a prior generation of 3D graphics technology. And it's not well suited to photo realism because standard lights do not obey physical laws. They're purely impressionistic or cartoon lighting. If you want photo-real results, then choose one of the other categories of lights. Arnold lights, as the name indicates, will only render in the Arnold renderer. Photometric lights will render in…
