- [Narrator] 3D coordination is by far the favorite BIM use for the contractor. Chances are that 3D coordination drove them to use the BIM process in the first place. This BIM uses a process in which clash detection software is used during the coordination process to determine fill confits, by comparing 3D model of building systems. The goal of clash detection is to eliminate the major system conflict prior to the installation. When using clash detection software, individuals can coordinate a building project through a model. So it's possible to reduce, if not eliminate, in the field confits, which in turn reduces the number of RFIs, or Request for Information, significantly. Using clash detection software enables visualizing construction, increasing productivity and thus reducing construction cost. Plus, potentially less cost growth. In other words, less change orders.
