Creating column offsets

- [Instructor] Just because we use the grid to basically lock in our columns, it doesn't mean we can't move a few columns around here and there. The objective of this video is to select a couple of columns and move them, then we'll go back and examine the properties of that column to see how Revit displays the offset and the properties. I'm going to open Structural-06. Let's go down to level one structural plans. I'm going to zoom in here. These columns seem a little out of place. Let's select these two columns. There's a couple of different ways we can select these. If you pick a window, starting from the left, moving to the right, notice that only the objects 100% within that window will become selected. If I do the opposite and go from right to left, notice that it selects everything it comes into contact with. So if you hold down the pick button and engage it from the left to the right, we can grab these two columns. I'm going to click the Move button. Click Constrain, that basically constrains us to zero, 90, 180 to 70. Pick a point along your grid line and go in this direction. Type in 1219 and hit Enter. That's going to land my column right in this intersection, the sweet spot. Do the same for these two. I'm going to pick a window around these, click Move, pick a base point, let's go 1219, hit Enter, hit Escape a couple of times. Now, it gets those columns out of that intersection. So when we frame it, I'll have a beam going from here to here and then from here to here, and that should pick it up nicely. but go ahead and select one of these columns. Notice that it knows the column location is C3, but it understands what that column offset is. So when we automatically make a column schedule, which we'll do this chapter, you'll see in the schedule that the column location's still C-3, however, it's got an offset of 1219. Hit Escape a couple of times, save your model. That's how you create column offsets.
