- [Instructor] What sort of defects are there, and how do we find them without destroying our parts? It is very important to classify defects so we can properly remedy what is causing the issue. Defects can be classified by their origin. There are manufacturing defects, as well as raw material defects. And if the final part is not handled correctly, handling defects. Manufacturing defects are defects such as void spaces from a lack of proper clamping or poor vacuum bagging techniques. Maybe some foreign material was accidentally trapped in between the plies or the temperature in the clave was not set correctly. Other defects can occur from raw materials themselves. The resins may not be mixed correctly or were left in an environment not suitable for them before usage and contaminants may have gotten in. The fiberglass or carbon fiber materials may have gotten cut or may have breaks from poor handling. And these will…
