- When designing buildings for schools and universities, we start with the larger context of the campus and the school long-term planning vision. Usually the architect is involved in the visioning and planning process, but sometimes we're not because the project has already been developed to some extent. In this case, it's important to understand the history and the organizational goals of the academic institutions we're dealing with. We see many different types of spaces used in education design, whether it's a university or a K through 12 school. Starting from the typical classroom to many different types of specialty classrooms, like art classrooms, science labs, or foreign language classrooms, administrative and counseling rooms, libraries, food service facilities, athletic and performance buildings, and many others.
