- Approximately one third of all available points in the LEED rating system are found in the Energy and Atmosphere category. This category includes prerequisites and credits that address energy use reduction, energy-efficient design strategies, testing and verification, monitoring consumption, and renewable energy resources. The first prerequisite in the Energy and Atmosphere category is building commissioning with a goal to support the design, construction, and operation of a building that meets the owner's project requirements for energy, water, indoor environmental quality, and durability.
