- 20 years ago, when the popularity of BIM or VDC was gaining traction, a lot of these tools we see today hadn't yet been created. Teams were using 2D CAD software or producing drawings by hand, mailing them to the architect for review, then contractors for bidding, taking these drawings and laying them over one another in the field on a light table to see where potential conflicts might arise. As you can imagine, without the additional perspective gained by another dimension, you are bound to miss something. Within the coordination process, you are hopefully able to resolve clashes quickly using the clash detection tools, like BIM track, or NavisWorks, or Solibri. This process should be pretty straightforward. Find the clash, figure out who needs to move, and update the model, publish the model. You'll want to keep the published models with unique file names so you know when the information was updated, what changes occurred, and where things are at that point. The more difficult…
