Even short falls hurt

- Let's talk about short falls. I said in the intro to this course that this is really about falls that occur on the same level as opposed to falls from heights. You know, everyone pays attention when we talk about falling from heights. I think everyone sort of understands that if you fall from 50 meters up, you're not likely to survive when you hit the ground no matter what we see in the movies. People tend to pay less attention when we talk about slipping and falling or tripping or falling off a stepladder. That's one of the reasons that I opened the course by giving you some facts and figures. In many workplaces, the number one cause of injuries are these slips, trips, and very short falls. If you're carrying too much and you trip over something and fall, your hands aren't free to help you stop your fall.
