- [Instructor] External authority occurs when individuals, which are not necessarily your clients, want to achieve certain end results. Examples include project partners, consultants, or subcontractors which are using different software from what your firm uses but are able to influence your firm's use of the technology due to the financial and process-related advantages of using it. Thus, they enable your authority to roll out the process or technology due to the enhanced chance of project success. This example of authority can be argued to be owner-driven or internally driven by various management, as well, but without these outside forces using it, your firm wouldn't be using it either. Another external authority includes software companies, which will provide the software as a test for specific projects in hope that it will be adopted widespread after its success on your current project.
