Extrude and Revolve

- [Instructor] Now I wanna talk about extrude. I'm gonna go into the home tab, and I'm gonna pick the extrude button. And I'm gonna pick this curve. No you'll notice that if I pick an open profile, it does create a surface. The reason why I wanna mention this is you'll notice at the bottom of the extrude, I have a body type set to solid. Even though it's set to solid, it's going to create a surface, or a sheet body, because the system can't create a solid off of an open profile. Unless I have offset turned on. So if I turn on, let's say, two sided, you'll notice now it goes and creates a solid volume for me. But if I don't have my offset turned on, I end up with that surface. Now I'm gonna cancel this out. I'm gonna go into revolve, pick the same curve, and I'm gonna go and specify my vector. I'll just use my X here. Body type is set to solid. I'm gonna select okay. You'll notice in this case, I ended up with a solid. And the reason why I ended up with a solid is because technically this is a closed volume. I took that curve, revolved it around that X axis, and it creates that whole volume, or that solid. If I did want this to actually be a sheet body, or a surface, I just double click on the revolve, and this is where it's very important. You change this to sheet. So now that it's a sheet, you'll notice it is open. It's no longer a volume. So if I'm revolving an open profile, and I do a complete revolution, it will basically make a solid. If I want a surface, I have to change it to sheet. Now, basically the same thing for the extrude, with an open profile, it's just gonna give me a surface, unless I turn on offset. If I turn on offset, it'll give me a solid. If I have a closed profile, and I want a surface, I can just change that from solid to sheet, that option inside of the extrude function. Let me go and show you where that's at once again. Right here, for body type. I can change that to sheet. And even if it's a closed profile, it'll give me an actual sheet body. So I just wanted to mention that. Make sure that you understand that, yeah even though this is a simple, non-technically surfacing tool, I can still create sheets with the extrude and the revolve.
