Filament jams

- [Instructor] You've probably had the experience that your 3D printer's nozzle will keep moving but nothing comes out. This is often accompanied by a clicking sound from your extruder as the motor loses torque and skips backwards. This can be caused by a clog in the nozzle but can also be caused by filament jams. Jams happen when the unmelted filament encounters too much friction and stops extruding. It can also be caused by your filament's diameter getting too large to fit through the printer. Since this is the simplest thing to fix, check for that first by using calipers to measure your filament diameter. Be sure to measure in multiple directions in case the filament isn't circular. If the diameter is too big, cut off a meter or so, check again, and start over. - [Man] Your filament can also jam if the filament gets too hot before it enters the melt chamber, which is called heat creep.
