The Fitwel system

- The Fitwel system is an evidence-based certification that recognizes building programs, strategies, and policies with a positive impact on occupant health, wellness, and productivity. Fitwel was launched in 2015 as a joint initiative led by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the General Services Administration, in addition to experts in public health and design over a five-year period. The Center for Active Design is the licensed operator of Fitwel and is responsible for third-party certification of projects. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is responsible for Fitwel's research and evaluation. The General Services Administration is currently using Fitwel to certify buildings from all 11 regions of its portfolio. Since its official launch in March 2017, Fitwel is fast approaching 400 certified projects globally.
