- Clean, organized work sites tend to contain fewer hazards that can cause slips and trips. Lots of work sites from retail to construction, end up with debris piling up in the walkways, from packing materials and pallets at retail stores to scrap lumber and rebar on construction sites. It all needs to be contained. Keeping our waste materials, scrap, packing containers, and even products waiting to be stocked on shelves out of the walkways is an important step in removing tripping hazards. This kind of thing can build up quickly and it can take some concerted effort to keep it clear and maintained. There should be a plan in place to keep clear walkways and work areas as debris is being generated before it builds up too much. Designate an area where debris is to be placed until it can be disposed of to help keep it out of the walkways. Now, another part of good housekeeping is keeping our walking and working areas clear…
