How to use the exercise files

- [Instructor] If you have access to the exercise files that I've provided with this course, go ahead and download those, and extract them, place them in a convenient location on your computer's hard drive. I've just dropped them here on the desktop. If you don't have access to the exercise files, you can still create your own assets as you go. And I'll show you how to point to this exercise file's project folder for 3ds Max, or how to create your own project folder for your own custom assets. Also, if you don't have 3ds Max installed, if you're on a mobile device, or otherwise can't follow along with the demonstrations, that's okay because you can still learn by example. Let's take a look at some of the exercise files in this project folder. The most significant ones are in the scenes folder. So go into scenes, and you'll see a bunch of 3ds Max.max scene files, and there's usually one scene file per movie. Sometimes there may be a finished version that I've provided as you can see here, there's a start state for the movie, and an end state for the movie. If there is not a finished version, then the end state is actually represented by the next movie's begin state. In other words, 02_09_shading_modes is the start state, begin state for 02_09, and 02_10_configure_viewports is the end state for 02_09, as well as the begin state for 02_10. So, they usually flow from one scene file to the next, according to the movies. Also, very importantly, in the scene assets folder, there are a bunch of dependent files that you'll need to load the scenes. Because 3ds Max, like all 3D programs, stores 2D image data, and sounds, and things like that, separately from the scene geometry and animation. If we go into scene assets, images, we'll see that there are a bunch of png files that I've provided to texture surfaces in the scenes. We've also got an import folder, and that's just got one file in it. It's an Adobe Illustrator document to demonstrate how to import Illustrator paths into 3ds Max. And there are also some rendered images that I've provided as examples. In the previews folder, there is an examples folder. And inside that is an image sequence in the walkthrough folder, and this is a sequence that was rendered using the preview function of 3ds Max, which simply captures the screen, and saves that screen capture to disk. There are also production renderings, and those are found in renderoutput, examples, and there are two folders there. Stills_ART. These are high quality still images rendered with the ART renderer. There's also a folder labeled, walkthrough_arnold, and this is the same animation of a walkthrough that we see here in the preview, except this is a full production render using the new arnold renderer from solid angle. So, those are the exercise files for the course.
