Identifying the hazard with GHS and SDS
- [Instructor] I want to change directions for a few minutes and talk about identifying hazards. We can talk about hazards for hours and still not cover each one you might encounter on your job or personal life. But what I can cover is how to identify the hazards presented by chemicals and products that we purchase. So why pick that one? Well, chemicals can present a wide variety of hazards, both to our long-term health and to our immediate physical safety. And it's not always clear from reading the instructions on the chemicals what those hazards really are, which makes it challenging to select the proper PPE. This is where you need to learn to access and read the material's safety data sheet, or SDS. This is one area where there is a global standard for classifying and identifying the hazards that are presented when you work with hazardous chemicals or products.
