Improving light samples

- [Instructor] Rendering in a Monte Carlo ray tracer such as Arnold is always a battle against grain. If you want smoother renderings, you need to increase the number of rays or samples. Previously, we saw how to increase the sampling quality in the render settings. Now let's look at a similar setting in each light. And that is actually a first line of action when you're seeing grain in your shot is to increase the number of samples on the light. This is especially important for a sky dome light because its area is so large. It covers the entire environment. Let's do a baseline rendering with the default sample settings. Click in the camera floor window. And go to Arnold, render. When it's finished, create a snapshot. Then select the sky dome and open up its attributes, control-A. In the attributes for any Arnold light or any Maya native light supported by Arnold we'll see a samples attribute. The default is only one…
