Improving skydome interiors with light portals

- [Instructor] Interiors illuminated by a Skydome will usually render to be very grainy. We can increase the sampling in the Skydome light and in the rendered settings, but that would increase rendered times substantially. The Light Portal Object focuses the samples of a Skydome light into the interior space, giving smoother renderings with shorter render times. Let's do a baseline render with no portals. Click in the camera North view port and on the Maya status line, click render the current frame. We'll do a production render this time because we want to see a read out of the render times. When that finishes we can see that it's pretty grainy, even though I've got three samples on the Skydome light itself. Most of this is actually diffused reflections and I've only got two samples for the diffused component in the render settings. Let's store this. Save that in memory and close window.
