- Like many other green building rating systems, LEED encourages a holistic approach by integrating green building solutions instead of meeting LEED credits and prerequisites individually in a bubble. Each LEED credit addresses a specific building issue with one or multiple requirements. Project teams identify customized solutions such as green building practices, technologies, and/or programs to meet the requirements of individual credits. The solutions for one credit may also affect other LEED credits. Many LEED credits interact with each other, mostly in a positive way. These interactions are called a synergy, if the interaction results in positive benefits for all relevant credits, and a trade-off, many strategies implemented for one credit negatively impact another credit's results.
